ANNOUNCEMENT:  Camp Hornet has reached full enrollment for the following weeks and is closed to any further registrations.
     Week 2  June 17-21
     Week 5  July 8-12
     Week 6  July 15-19
     Week 7  July 22-26

Camp Hornet
provides eight weeks of an outstanding summer camp experience with well-rounded activities for campers entering grades 1 to 8.  At Camp Hornet, we adhere to the philosophy that the key to a successful camping experience starts with each child having an enthusiastic and experienced counselor.  We maintain a low camper/counselor ratio, and we provide a safe environment in which fun and learning go hand in hand. As part of each camp day, your child will have an instructional swim lesson and a recreational swim period in our indoor heated pool.  Our Red Cross-certified swimming instructors evaluate each child to determine ability level and then, over the course of each week, develop lessons to improve swimming skills and confidence in the water.

To maximize the fun for everyone, Camp Hornet is divided into four age groups.  Our youngest campers are introduced to the excitement of summer camp when they become part of Hornet Juniors (Grades 1 & 2). Understanding that camp can represent a set of "firsts", from riding the bus to learning to swim, we work with families to create a gentle transition for fun and discovery.  Our younger program centers on a balance of structured activities with free play opportunities.  During carefully paced days that balance physical and creative activities with both structured and imaginative play, our younger campers thrive at Camp Hornet.  Your child will be in a safe and nurturing environment supervised by adult counselors who have experience working with young children.

For our middle age groups, Hornets (Grades 3 & 4) and Stingers (Grades 5 & 6), Camp Hornet is all about choices!  Campers will have the opportunity to enjoy arts & crafts, games/challenges, water slides/water play, hiking, and nature exploration.  Sports activities include baseball, basketball, flag football, kickball, soccer, capture the flag, floor hockey, volleyball, and tennis (just to name a few!).  All equipment and instruction are geared to ensure the success of our campers.

Our older campers are known as Adventurers (Grades 7 & 8) and, as the name implies, our advanced program balances the many exciting on-campus activities listed above with the opportunity to experience new challenges away from our Skiff Street campus.  Some of those experiences include Lake Wintergreen for fishing and hiking, Sleeping Giant State Park and Lighthouse Beach for hiking and exploring and visiting other popular local attractions.  As our campers mature, this program offers more opportunities to increase personal growth, social development, and leadership skills.
For all of Camp Hornet, we will continue throughout the summer with our special activities and theme days. The air-conditioned Beckerman Athletic Center (Skiff Street Campus) will serve as "home base" for all of our activities - both inside and out!  The weekly tuition is $275 ($165 for the 4th of July week).  Campers have the flexibility of registering for any combination of one to eight weeks between the dates of June 10 and August 2. Camp Hornet meets daily from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  In order to provide flexibility for working parents, we also offer, for an additional charge, an extended day program with both morning (8 a.m. - 9 a.m.) and afternoon (3:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.) sessions. For each day of camp, your child will need to bring a backpack with a snack, lunch, water, bathing suit, and towel.  (PLEASE, NO PEANUT PRODUCTS!)

Camp Discount:  If you register two siblings or more for six or more weeks of camp, the first camper pays full price and the others pay half price.

Change/Cancellation Policy: Any program may be canceled because of insufficient enrollment, in which case, the registration fee would be refunded in full. Once registration is processed, any subsequent change in registration made by you will result in a $20.00 administrative fee. For cancellations made before June 7, 2019, you will receive a full refund minus the $100.00 non-refundable deposit. Cancellations after June 7th, but made at least two weeks prior to the start of your camp session, will receive a 50% refund. Cancellations made within two weeks of the start of your camp session will not receive a refund. If you have any questions about your registration, please contact Bruce Rich (brich@hamdenhall.org).

Sports Camps

Our Summer Sports Camps strive to develop the whole athlete in your child. With our diverse offerings, campers improve their skill level and develop the confidence needed to attain a high level of success. With our variety of offerings, your child has the unique opportunity to participate in other sports activities and, by doing so, promote better physical development as a result of this exposure. Whether you choose one sport or more than one, your child will receive instruction from qualified coaches with years of experience working with children.

All of our Sports Camps, unless otherwise noted, are in session from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The camps utilize the fields and athletic facilities at our Skiff Street Athletic Complex.
