  • The James R. Maggart Scholarship Fund


    Hamden Hall’s eighth head of school, James R. Maggart, passed away Nov. 19, 2021. Jim had served for 13 years under the pines before retiring in May 2004. Upon his retirement in 2004, Jim was surprised with news that his school community had established the James R. Maggart Scholarship Fund in his honor.

    Jim's fund supports the education of young women.

  • Ann Rademacher Burrow, Class of 1946

    Ann Rademacher Burrow, Class of 1946, died peacefully in Hamden on January 29, 2023 at the age of 93. She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Gerard "Jerry" Burrow, and is survived by three children.

    Early in her marriage, Ann spent two years in Japan where Jerry was working and she learned calligraphy and flower arranging. Upon returning to Conn., Ann became active in various non-profit and charitable organizations. She was also a Cub Scot den mother and a Brownie Troop Leader.

    A private burial service was held at the Grove Street Cemetery. Hamden Hall wishes the Burrow family sincere condolences.

  • Susan Thalheimer Strauss, Class of 1947

    Alumna Susan Thalheimer Strauss, Class of 1947, died on May 10 in Iowa City. She was 93. She is survived by her daughter, Joan Strauss. She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. John Strauss, whom she married in 1950, and daughter Mary Strauss-Penka. 

    Susan was surrounded by the arts growing up in New Haven and developed a real passion for theatre, music, dance performance and the visual arts. She and her family moved to Iowa in 1978 and worked as a travel agent and enjoyed quite a bit of travelling through the years. 

    A special remembrance on Thursday, June 15, 2023 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the Heiden Room at Oaknoll, 1 Oaknoll Court in Iowa City.
