A Message From Our Head of School

Welcome to our Hamden Hall Community, and thank you for digitally exploring our halls. I think you’ll like what you see throughout this site as the heart of a Hamden Hall education is the student experience.

We call it The Hamden Hall Experience, and it’s always been the organic element in everything we do and offer as part of daily campus life. Of course, rigorous academics and attention to excellence are the foundation of our educational program, but the student experience is just as important; and, frankly, it’s what sets us apart from other independent schools.

We want our students to experience everything within our halls; to have opportunities to fulfill their dreams and pursue their passions—even those they haven’t yet considered as possibilities. Participation is one of our Core Values, and it complements the student experience in that we encourage our students to get involved in enrichment classes, extracurricular clubs and activities, athletic pursuits, studio and visual arts offerings, and more.

We enjoy a storied legacy “under the pines,” as we like to say, which dates back to our opening days more than 110 years ago. At that time, in 1912, we were the country’s fourth country day school. Since that time, we have grown in myriad ways including enrollment, curriculum and programming, community partnerships, and infrastructure. Our academic presence now branches out physically over 51 acres and three campuses.

Despite our growth, we remain a family who celebrates many of the same traditions that were established decades ago. In our halls and classrooms, students enjoy and embrace a sense of belonging and allyship that in turn helps to create a unique identity that fosters school spirit and community-building.

After you delve into the information gleaned on our website, I hope you’ll visit us on campus and engage with our students and faculty. We’re proud of our school community and the purposeful culture we’ve created that ensures our students commence from our halls as well-rounded individuals and citizens.

Our Mission

Honor Code

Integrity and Responsibility are words that embody the moral and ethical foundation of Hamden Hall Country Day School. The Honor Code is the structure that defines and promotes these values within our School Community. It is composed of two parts: an Honor Pledge and an Honor Contract, and all students are expected to abide by this code. It states:
As a member of the Hamden Hall community, I pledge my honesty, academic integrity, sportsmanship, and stewardship, and I expect others to be responsible and to do the same.
To reaffirm their pledge, students will print "Hamden Hall Honor Pledge" and sign their names on all in-class exams, quizzes, and applicable take-home work.

Hamden Hall Country Day School, located less than two miles from Yale University, is one of the best private schools in Connecticut to enroll elementary, middle, and high school students. Our nurturing and inclusive community provides a dynamic learning environment that promotes academic excellence by understanding each child and fostering their individual growth.
