Mark Murdoch 1980 Update

Jodi Amatulli
Mark Murdoch, Class of 1980, will join fellow ice hockey players and coaches being honored at Hamden Hall’s 2018 Athletic Hall of Fame Awards on April 14. The teams from 1976 – 1979 are among a list of honorees to be recognized that evening. Mark reports that since his days as a Hornet (note his yearbook photo!), he graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering. He earned his MBA, also from RPI, in 1989. Mark has worked in various engineering and operations manager roles. Currently, he is Vice President of Engineering at the Dexmet Corporation, a manufacturer in Wallingford, Conn. “Hamden Hall provided strong guidance and direction toward engineering, which certainly helped to set my goals early and accelerated my career path,” Mark said. On a personal note, Mark and his wife, Karen, have been married 32 years (she’s also an engineer from RPI!). The couple has two sons—both college graduates who are also successful engineers. Besides sharing their professional engineering passion, Mark says he and Karen also enjoy a common hobby—wine making. In fact, the couple is in the process of opening a winery in Suffield, Conn., scheduled for early 2019. Congratulations on that exciting news and keep up posted! Back to the Hall of Fame, Mark plans to not only attend the event, but represent his father, former coach William Murdoch as well. Mark says that his dad would like to attend, but health issues will most likely prevent him from doing so. That said, we’ll all join Mark in celebrating his father’s accomplishments on the sidelines of the rink.
