Homecoming 2016 Elicits Spirited Fun

Reunion and Homecoming Weekend 2016 was a wild success with Hornet pride on display from our youngest students to alumni who harkened back to the Class of 1946!

School spirit pervaded the campus all week long heading into Homecoming Weekend with dress-up theme days planned by the student government.

“The level of school spirit on display was as high as I have ever seen it – and that says something because Hamden Hall is known as a school with a lot of school spirit,” said Head of School Bob Izzo. “Congratulations to all of you and to all of the teams. Special thanks to the student government and all of the students and faculty (especially Luke Wilcox and Mr. Greenawalt) for their hard work in the planning and execution of an outstanding week.”

On Friday, each level had its own assembly and Lower School participated in its annual pep rally. Additionally, the Middle School Advocates’ fashion show has been a crowd-pleaser for more than a quarter century!

On hand to view the festivities were alumni from milestone reunion classes (from 1946 to 2011) who also enjoyed a luncheon that featured our third-graders singing the school song.  Beloved former administrator and music aficionado Kathie Harris led the alums in the tribute to their time under the pines.

An all alumni cookout prior to the varsity football game (which the Hornets won 46 to 28) was another first for our school community. Alumni and current and past faculty members gathered in the quad to enjoy fellowship and, of course, stories from decades past.

On Saturday, Homecoming 2016 continued at the Skiff Street Athletic Complex with various games and sporting contests.  Students and alumni children were also treated to hay rides, a magic show and various activities planned by a group of sixth-grade volunteers and their teachers.
