1983 Alumna Helps Newtown Recover

Jodi Amatulli
Since the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School on Dec. 14, 2012, Jennifer Lavelle Holguin, Hamden Hall Class of 1983, has spent her professional life helping the community recover through her work as the office manager at the Resiliency Center of Newtown (RCN).
Jennifer is spreading the word about a fundraising fashion show that will benefit the center.  The event will be held at the Ridgefield Playhouse on Thursday, Sept. 22, at 6:30 p.m.  Jennifer would love to see some of her Hamden Hall classmates come out and enjoy the evening, or even sponsor one of the models (hint, hint, Jennifer quips).  The entire RCN staff will participate on the runway is some way, form, or fashion!
“We are raising funds so that we may continue to provide free therapy and outreach programs to those affected by the tragedy,” Jennifer said.
She explained that recently, for example, RCN ran a free two-week trauma-informed day camp and the organization’s first ever sleep-away camp.
“The goal was to provide the children with a true camp experience where kids were free to simply be kids,” Jennifer said.
For a more family-oriented event, designed to promote community and family togetherness, RCN is hosting a scavenger hunt at Grace Farms in New Canaan Oct. 1 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
“Our biggest fundraiser of the year is our spring gala at The Waterview in Monroe on March 31, 2017,” said Jennifer. “It’s always an exciting evening with amazing silent auction items, fabulous food, and exceptional music.”
