Alumna Teacher Turns Administrator

Jodi Amatulli
Hamden Hall alumna Kimberly “Kim” Gold Porto, Class of 1987, has begun the next chapter of her professional life at Hamden Hall.
Serving as interim academic dean, Kim has spent the summer in her new office with a full platter of responsibilities. She schedules and advises students and their parents on course selections and curriculum planning. Kim will work closely with class deans and the director of curriculum as she monitors Upper School students’ academic progress and oversees grades and comments.
Additionally, Kim is director of Hamden Hall’s After School Academy, as well as our Summer Academy, and she consults with Lower School teachers on the implementation of the new math program, Envision 2.0.
Transitioning from her tenure as a Hamden Hall Lower School teacher (Grades 5 and 6) where Kim started in 2008, she is looking forward to “working with a large group of students on the high school level” (and getting to know each one of them by name!).
Prior to joining the Hamden Hall faculty, Kim taught at Ridge Road School in North Haven for 16 years.
She earned a bachelor’s in education Magna Cum Laude from Boston College, a master’s in education from Southern Connecticut State University, and a sixth-year diploma in Educational Leadership from Quinnipiac University.
Beyond working at Hamden Hall, Kim has roots at her alma mater. Her sister Tracy Gold is a Hamden Hall alumna, Class of 1989. Kim’s husband, Carl Porto II, is a 1986 HH alumnus, along with brothers-in-law Joe Porto, Class of 1989, and Mark Porto, Class of 1994. Kim’s mother-in-law, Terry Porto, retired in June after 31 years teaching first grade at Hamden Hall, and her father-in-law, Carl Porto Sr., serves on our Board of Trustees.
Kim joined family members to proudly present her eldest son, Carl III, with his Hamden Hall diploma at Commencement 2016. “We’re all very proud of Carl's early admission to William's College—ranked #2 on Forbes best college list!” Kim’s youngest son, Billy, is a sophomore Hornet (and wearing her parent hat, Kim will be cheering on Billy come football season!).
Kim notes that being part of the Hamden Hall faculty—serving first as a teacher and now an administrator—is a source of great pride.
“It feels like coming home to my family,” Kim said. “I have had the honor of teaching many of my former teachers’ children. And this past year, all of my son Carl's teachers had previously taught both my husband and me.”
Now that’s coming full circle! Congratulations to Kim!
