Summer Academy Fosters Customized Learning and Enrichment for Students

With 32 courses to choose from for Lower School students and tailored coursework for Middle and Upper School students, Hamden Hall’s Summer Academy allows the experiential learning to continue during the summer months.

The Hamden Hall experience is fostered during the six-week Summer Academy with small classes and instruction by many of the school’s premier faculty members. With more educational and enrichment opportunities for all grade levels, the Summer Academy allows for customized learning in everything from robotics to the fundamentals of writing to ceramics and printmaking.

“Whether you are looking for enrichment or support, we have a variety of course offerings,” maintains Summer Academy co-director Kim Porto. “Classes in STEM activities and robotics will keep your child from losing any math and science skills over the summer.”

Mrs. Porto also noted that most of the classes are taught by such highly qualified and beloved teachers such as Lisa Collins, Emily Schimelman, Steve Jewett, Bruce Zundell, Caryn Azoff, Shayna Segal, Kimberly Randall, Maria Prota, Barbara DeNatale, and more to be announced.

New this year is Adventures and Academics for students entering grades Kindergarten through Grade 6. The program offers a full day of activities starting with academic classes in the morning (from 9 a.m. to noon) and adventures in the afternoon (from noon to 3:30 p.m.). After engaging in coursework during the morning hours, students will spend the afternoon swimming at the Beckerman Athletic Center, exploring local museums and state parks, and participating in team-building games, among other activities.

Planned theme days will also be part of the Adventures and Academics program with such offerings as Red, White, and Blue Day; Movie Day; and Under the Sea Day.

Summer Academy classes begin June 27 and run in one, three, or six week sessions, ending August 5. Extended day coverage is available for all Summer Programs and various tuition discounts are offered for siblings.

An Open House at the Beckerman Athletic Center on April 24 from 1 to 3 p.m. will showcase all of the programming available this summer at Hamden Hall. Besides the Summer Academy, Hamden Hall offers a traditional camp experience via Camp Hornet, sports camps that utilize the school’s state-of-the-art Skiff Street Athletic Complex, and a new Early Childhood Discovery Program for 3-, 4-, and 5-year-olds.
