'Legally Blonde' Cast Ready to Impress Audiences

Memorable songs and dynamic dancing are cued up for this week’s Upper School musical as the ever-popular Legally Blonde transforms Hamden Hall’s stage into a sorority house and the hallowed halls of Harvard.

More than 45 students have come together on stage and off to bring this energetic, hilarious musical to Hamden Hall.

“Often the most entertaining part of a show experience is the rehearsal process. It has been my privilege to work with this amazing cast, and I've had a blast laughing with them as we took all the silliness from the pages of this script and music and transferred it into their voices and bodies,” said performing and visual arts teacher Karl Gasteyer.

Indeed – Mr. Gasteyer, the show’s director, confirmed that silliness ensued when he taught the cast a particularly charming dance number involving the iconic “bend and snap” scene.

English and arts teacher Lisa Daly confirmed the fun, upbeat nature of the show and its rehearsals, which have been ongoing for six weeks.

“The laughter coming from the theater during the rehearsal process is evidence of the ridiculously fun time the audience will have. Working tirelessly, the show has kept the students giggling, cheering each other on, and dancing their socks off,” she maintained.

The international award-winning musical is based on the adored movie, which follows the transformation of Elle Woods (played by sophomore Charley Tiernan) as she tackles stereotypes, snobbery, and scandal in pursuit of her dreams. Cast and crew promise that there are equal parts hilarity and heart-warming tenderness. Students with solos include Charley, Josh Torello, Sophia Lawder-Gill, Ben Dawn-Cross, Michael Tracy, Anna Chiodo, and Hannah Flamm.

Interesting as well is the scenery. A series of movable panels cloaked in different fabrics take the audience into the courtroom, a department store, a hair salon, and more.

The show runs Thursday, March 3, and Friday, March 4, at 8 p.m. There is also a matinee Sunday, March 6, at 1 .m. Tickets are $15 and $10 for students. Click here to purchase online.
