2011 Alumna Works to Make Smiles Brighter

Class of 2011 alumna Olivia Dworkin creates beautiful lasting smiles as a dentist and now business owner as she opened her own practice, Dworkin Dental, with her father Dr. Jay Dworkin.

“I chose dentistry because I wanted to work in healthcare, and I love working with my hands and being creative,” said Olivia. “I appreciate being able to educate my patients and the community on the importance of oral health and its link to overall systemic health.”

Olivia’s passion for dentistry is more than a career; it’s in her genes. Olivia is the third generation of Dworkins to become a dentist following her father and grandfather, the late Dr. Joseph Dworkin. The family’s dental history dates back to 1953 when Dr. Joseph opened his practice, Southern Connecticut Dental Group, in Ansonia and Southbury. In 2022, Olivia and her father opened Dworkin Dental in Milford. She noted that she feels lucky to be working alongside her father as he has been a wonderful mentor throughout her life and career. Furthermore, Olivia is thrilled to see the continuous growth of the practice and feels fortunate to work with an incredible team.

To provide the best patient care, Olivia said it’s highly important to stay up-to-date with education as dental technologies, applications, and materials change. For her professional development, Olivia is a member of various associations, study groups, and attends courses three to four times per month. This spring, she will be heading to Arizona for a week to learn how to place implants, and said she’s excited to bring this procedure back to the office and give patients the ability to chew and smile.

“I truly believe that when a person is confident with their smile and able to use their teeth to eat and function well, they are happier overall and feel good about themselves,” said Olivia. “I’ve seen patients go from worn-down teeth and being very insecure to having a beautiful and functional new smile. It is a fulfilling experience to help a patient get their confidence back.”

Following graduation from Hamden Hall, Olivia enrolled at Union College in Schenectady N.Y., where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics and biology in 2015. She went on to obtain her Master’s degree in biomedical science from Tufts University School of Medicine. After four years, she earned her Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD) from the School of Dental Medicine at Tufts University and she continued her education at University of Connecticut in advanced education in general dentistry.
