2019 Alumnus Studying and Working in Taiwan

Class of 2019 alumnus Joshua “Josh” Brause graduated Cum Laude from Colby College with Bachelor of Arts degree in government and a minor in East Asia studies.

During his time in undergrad, Josh served as the class co-president in the Student Government Association, founded and worked as the Editor-in-Chief for Overture Journal of International Affairs, and published a 130-page honors thesis on US-Israel strategic relations. He was inducted into the Pi Sigma Alpha Political Science Honors Society and was the recipient of several awards and grants including the Benjamin Ling Fellowship, Goldfarb Center for Public Affairs Maisel Fellow Grants, and the Lelia M. Forster Prize. The Forster Prize acknowledges a first-year student’s academic performance, contributions to campus life, respect garnered from classmates, and a demonstration of good character and ideals.

Following graduation, Josh moved to Taipei, Taiwan, to study at the National Taiwan Normal University Mandarin Training Center. He was the recipient of the Huayu Language Scholarship from the Taiwan Ministry of Education, which granted his nine-month study.

Professionally, Josh is now working as a geopolitics associate at the Taiwan Strait Risk Report. He works on geopolitical risk projects with Peter Enav, the former head of the Taipei Bureau of the Associated Press, and Mike Chinoy, a former CNN bureau chief in Beijing and Senior Asia correspondent.

Josh is the son of 1982 alumnus David Brause and Elizabeth Brause.
