Latin Students Earn Recognition for National Exam Performance

The high caliber of success in the classroom continues as Middle and Upper School students participated in the 2022 National Latin Exam, a 40-question annual exam that covers general knowledge of Latin grammar and vocabulary, translation, and derivatives.

“The National Latin Exam gives our students a chance to see how they can perform compared with other students,” said Latin teacher Stephanie Spaulding. “It's an external confirmation of their success beyond the Hamden Hall classroom."

The nine students awarded for their outstanding performance on the exam include Upper School students senior Judy Lu with Cum Laude, senior Lucy Xu with a Gold Medal, Summa Cum Laude, and sophomore Shaina Patel with Magna Cum Laude. Middle School students include eighth-graders Sofia Correa with a Silver Medal, Maxima Cum Laude; Ava Dinola with Magna Cum Laude; Laila Potter with Cum Laude; and Andrew Yang with a Silver Medal, Maxima Cum Laude. Seventh-graders include Samantha Diaz with a Silver Medal, Maxima Cum Laude; and Lillian Knutson with a Silver Medal, Maxima Cum Laude.

“Our curriculum, which emphasizes reading a high volume of works in Latin, does a great job prepping students for success," noted Ms. Spaulding.
