Eighth-Graders Garner Insightful Citations During Final Assembly

The final Middle School Assembly on the last official day of the school year included individual citations for each eighth-grader.

“We included the citations this year because we felt that we missed out on a number of opportunities to say goodbye to our eighth-graders at the end of the school year,” said Middle School Director Brian Christman. “We could not communicate in person how proud we are of them and how much we care about them. We were hoping that the citations would enable us to let them know how much we appreciate their growth and their accomplishments during their Middle School years.”

More than 120 viewers “tuned in” for the Zoom assembly – some from as far away as China, where Mr. Christman noted that it was “quite early in the morning.” Advisors presented well-thought-out personal insights on each eighth-grader as the student’s yearbook photo flashed on the screen.

The assembly also included an end-of-the-year slideshow (click here to view), shout-outs from faculty members on Middle School clubs and teams, and a special presentation by eighth-graders Isabella Aldo and Casey Armstrong.

Isabella and Casey had special words for science teacher Beth Richter, an alumna from the Class of 1985, who is retiring after an 18-year career at Hamden Hall.

“I am so fortunate to have had this wonderful class as my last class at Hamden Hall,” said Ms. Richter. “You are wonderful role models and I’ve been lucky to teach you.”

Math teacher Jim Craddock, who wrote individual poems for each of his eighth-grade advisees, touted the Middle School sports teams whom he said went undefeated this year. Mr. Christman noted the six issues that the “newspaper crew” published. “The most we ever had,” he said. And Math Department Chair Maria Agulian touted the successes of both the Math and Mathcounts teams.

Mr. Christman called the rising ninth-graders in the Class of 2024 “amazing.”

“The Class of 2024 will always have a special place in my heart because I know one of them very well,” he said. Mr. Christman’s son, William Christman, is among the members of the class.
