1979 Alumna Shares her Fluff with Hamden Hall

When it comes to business, alumna Kym Canter is all about fluff. Not fuzz or feathers or thistledown but super plush faux fur.
As CEO and creative director of House of Fluff, this Class of 1979 grad is making a global statement with her earth-friendly, cruelty-free fashion products.
“Like many women, I no longer felt comfortable or chic wearing real fur but could not find a luxurious and well crafted enough faux fur alternative,” said Kym, who has worked in the fashion industry for more than 20 years, first as a magazine editor, then stylist, and most recently creative director at a luxury brand.
“I sold all 26 of my own fur coats and vowed to create a brand that would not harm animals or the planet,” she said.
From caps and coats, to hoodies and jackets, to hats and scarves and other accessories, House of Fluff products are ethical reflections of fashion.
We believe that together we can create a new moment in fashion, one that sees wearing animals as obsolete and caring for the planet as always in vogue,” said Kym. “The company’s mission is to share love and style with everyone. We want to eliminate the decision between beauty and morality by crafting cruelty-free fashion products that make you feel as good on the inside as your look on the outside.”
Kym noted that along with faux fur, all linings are made from natural fabrics. Additionally, the company uses the most nontoxic textiles available, and products are produced at a fair trade factory in New York City.
“We repurpose all of our excess fabric into sweatshirt designs or plush collectibles we call Scrappys,” Kym explained. “We take every opportunity to make the world a better place, which is why we partner with a women’s co-op in El Salvador to produce all our fabric garment and dust bags.”
But it’s a House of Fluff Terry Bomber Jacket that will add to the warm and fuzzy feeling at the Hamden Hall Parents’ Association Sunset Mixer auction on June 17. The mixer follows the annual school golf tournament
Kym, a graduate of The California Institute of the Arts in Santa Clarita, Calif., was happy to share a House of Fluff fashion with her alma mater, contributing to the tournament’s goal to generate support for scholarship and athletics. . Additionally, Kym is offering a 20 percent Hamden Hall discount on products. Visit https://houseoffluff.com/ and use code HH20.
And what are the odds that when Kym hopefully returns “back home” for her 40th Hamden Hall class reunion in October, she’ll be sporting something fluffy!
