Hornet Hoops Bounce Back

Bud Kohler
We have seen some crazy weather lately, and unfortunately, the Boys Varsity Basketball team went cold and lost their first Fairchester League game to The Storm of St. Luke's School last Tuesday 72-68. However, just like typical changing New England weather, they rebounded quickly to record three straight FAA wins. The following Thursday, the Hornets traveled down to Greenwich and ground out a solid road win against Brunswick 83-74.

This Monday, the team took a quick trip to New Haven to top the Hop in a one sided affair 70-34. Hamden Hall actually started off slow in the first 8 minutes, but then really picked up the pace with some hot shooting to end the half with a solid lead. The Hornets came out in the second half shooting great and continued to build a solid lead. All Hamden Hall players contributed at some point with hot shooting , rebounding, or constant defensive pressure. “I felt we did a good job throughout the whole game keeping up the tempo, playing smart, but at our pace,” remarked junior Jahkai Pettway after the dominating performance.

On Thursday, Hornets returned home to record the trifecta with a nice 76-64 victory over The Masters School of Dobbs Ferry, NY in front of a strong, supportive crowd.  The Tri- captains, Tre Breland, Tim Dawson, and Christian Adams had a great 1st half at both ends of the court and did most of the scoring for the Hornets. “Christian and Tre had the hot hand all half and Tim was finding them. They did a great job taking good shots which helped us get a big lead,” commented head coach Sean Doherty. “Right now we are gaining more and more momentum heading into playoffs. Christian Adams added, "We jumped on them early on. Everybody was able to play. We play St. Luke's again on Saturday, and we’re really excited for a rematch.” The15-2 Hornets will travel to New Canaan and try to do a better job of weathering The Storm, who are undefeated, in order to claim a share of the top spot. Good luck to Coach Doherty and the team. Go Hornets!
