Girls’ Varsity Lacrosse Picks Up Win

The Girls’ Varsity Lacrosse Team hosted Fairchester Athletic Association League rival Holy Child for an afternoon match on Monday, May 1, winning 16-11.
Taking the field at the Skiff Street Athletic Complex, the offensive line was on fire as junior and captain Lily Schoonmaker scored nine goals, eighth-grader Alex Tombaugh scored four goals, and freshman Anya Carter scored two goals. Sophomore Ella Bessoni added one to the net for the Hornets and had two assists for the game. Senior and goal keeper Jiao Jiao Zhou had seven saves in the net.
Coach Emily Anderson noted that the team pushed hard on the key plays and caused turnover on the defensive end, which secured the final game win.
The team takes on Kingswood Oxford on Wednesday, May 3, at 4:30 p.m. for a dedication game for a foundation called Morgan's Message. The game will be dedicated to former Duke University student-athlete Morgan Rodgers, who tragically passed away in July 2019 after battling mental health struggles.
