Girls Tennis Enjoys Grand Slam Week

Last week was a very successful one for Girl Varsity Tennis. On Monday at home, the Hornets defeated MacDuffie School 7-0, marking the first shut out of another team in many years. Of special note, 7th grader Evelyn Morrow won at #4 singles while losing only 2 games. Sophomore Lara Sprinz also earned her first win, along with teammate Abbey Catalano, who continues her winning ways, at #3 doubles (W 8-4).

On Wednesday, the squad traveled to Westover School, a team that has usually had the Hornets' number for quite awhile. Lexi McKay won 8-0 at #1 singles, and Hannah Flamm won 8-3, at #3 singles, as both improved their team-best season records to 9 wins and just 3 losses. Kat Baering pulled out a tough, close match to etch her first win at #4 singles (8-5). At # 2 doubles, Abbey Catalano and 8th grader Sandra Apfelroth enjoyed a great win (8-6), clinching the close 4-3 victory for HH! Christina LoRicco, at # 2 singles, gave her best effort, but came up short against a girl who could be described as a human backboard (L 5-8).  Senior Alexa Smoko and junior Shaw Mettler put up a great fight, but fell short in a close match at #1 doubles (5-8), as did Olivia Calderella and Anisha Moran (3-8). Congratulations to Coach Peter Flamm and the entire team on a grand slam week!
