Girls Hoops Running the Court and Banging the Boards (as usual)

Ever since she became the Girls Varsity Basketball coach, Megan Borelli has crafted her squads in a distinct image. Whether she has been blessed with dominating height, such as Rachel Menze and Naomi VanNes, or deft ball handlers like Bianca Tomassini and Krystina Reynolds, or a pure three point sharpshooter like Rachel Plotke, Coach Borelli's teams are characterized by an up tempo offense and relentless defense that so often wear away even the most resilient competition. This year looks no different, as the Hornets have posted a very respectable 4-2 record at the holiday break. Recently, after defeating Canterbury and host Ethel Walker, the team advanced to the final game of the Ethel Walker Tournament where they lost to FAA league St. Luke's in the championship.

The team is averaging 58 points per game while defensively only giving up a stingy 46 points per contest. The team enjoys a balanced scoring attack with four players averaging double figures and a fifth player at 9 per game. The squad also gets contributions from its diverse roster. Freshman Asha Parker leads the team in scoring with 66 points to date, while averaging 11 per game. Middle Schooler Jada Johnson has been sensational, averaging almost 11 per game while seeing time as point guard and shooting guard. Senior Kai Clemons is the emotional leader and a ferocious competitor at both ends of the court. Fellow senior, Cassi Smith, has hit a number of clutch three pointers and is a vocal leader in practices as well as games. Junior point guard Shannon Rhone truly leads by example both on and off the floor; and junior Jenna Berens is averaging just under 11 points per game and is a force on the offensive and defensive boards.

The season should be quite promising with all players buying in to Coach Borelli's vision. Make a New Year's resolution to come out and catch a game.
