Counting Success One Math Competition At A Time

Mathematics guru Maria Agulian maintains that it’s been an awesome math season for Hamden Hall – with all teams moving on to compete at the coveted state level.

The Varsity Math Team participated in five competitions from September through February. Overall, the team earned the second place trophy and qualified to compete at the state level on April 4 in Bristol.

Additionally, the Varsity Team automatically qualified to go to the New England competition in April.

Right behind them was the JV Math Team, which garnered first place at every competition this year.

Mrs. Agulian also coaches the Middle School Mathcounts group. Out of a dozen teams from the New Haven area, Hamden Hall captured the third-place trophy at a recent competition at Yale University.

Participating students were: sixth-grader Vedant Aryan, and eighth-graders Lucy Xu, Owen Liu, and Hunter Lin, all of whom qualified to compete at the state level on March 10.

Eighth-grader Mia Yu qualified to compete as an individual at the state competition. Other individual participants were: eighth-graders Bailey Smoko, Michael Jones, and Sandra Apfelroth; and seventh-graders Bhavana Etikela and Thomas Dong.
