Nolan Rich 2009 Takes to the Airwaves to Satisfy Sports Hankering

Nolan Rich 2009 is finding that there is life after sports – by immersing himself in sports! Nolan, whose parents are both Hamden Hall faculty, was forced to hang up his baseball cleats earlier than he had hoped once he earned a scholarship to play at Muhlenberg College.

Upon graduation from Hamden Hall, Nolan attended IMG Baseball Academy to garner a scholarship to play the sport. But complications at Muhlenberg sidelined his field of dreams.

“After being told I couldn't play football or ice hockey due to concussions, I thought playing baseball would be my life. However, with complicated circumstances at Muhlenberg College, I was forced to hang up my cleats before I wanted to. I began to question what am I supposed to do? I knew there was something greater out there for me and there was,” explained Nolan.

Nolan started training for on-air radio work and learning more about the industry and eventually established a new play-by-play opportunity for Muhlenberg football and sports talkshow.

“Still I felt I could do more so in January of this year I launched my website and have found more success. I know I have found my calling in sports broadcasting and writing. My future goals are to expand and establish the sports broadcasting to the next level for Muhlenberg athletics,” he said.

Currently, Nolan is the sports director at Muhlenberg’s radio station, WMUH 91.7, where he handles the play-by-play for various sports including football. He also has a weekly radio talk show, The High and Tight Sports Talk Show, during which he discusses the latest in the world of sports including those at Muhlenberg.

“I bring guest athletes onto the show to help promote themselves and to spread the word in the Lehigh Valley,” said Nolan.

His website, http://richsportstalk.com, features articles that he has written – the most current of which is the legacy of New Haven Coliseum. To view Nolan’s blog or listen to live versions of his radio show, check out http://about.me/nolankrich.

“I envision expanding both our radio and television coverage for the Muhlenberg sports teams as we move into the future. Ultimately my goal is to host my own radio show after I graduate where I can continue to grow and be able to entertain the masses. The road maybe tough, but I know with the support of my family I will accomplish my goals,” he maintained.
