The Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society is a national organization for high school students that encourages interest in, understanding of, and appreciation for social studies and encourages members to become responsible and productive citizens of our community.
The newest inductees for the 2026-2027 academic year include current juniors Guthrie Cebik, Bethel Desta, Teresa Esposito, Ben Greenberg, Landon Sassau-Martin, and Rylee Sweeney; and current sophomores Mia Aisin, Anna Aslan, Teagan Bird, Lara Ozcan, Katie Popkhadze, Aaron Prygoda, and Hana Vining. History Department Chair and Director of Inclusion, Equity, and Diversity Dr. Lisa Hill serves as the Rho Kappa faculty advisor.
The morning ceremony welcomed guests including outgoing chapter members, current chapter members, the new inductees, and their parents to Swain Library. Dr. Hill took a moment to congratulate the students on being part of a special organization and spoke on the history of Rho Kappa.
“I am proud to welcome the newest members into the Hamden Hall Chapter of Rho Kappa as they represent the values of society, integrity and thoughtfulness, and the principles of the organization,” said Dr. Hill.
Seniors Nico Razza-Baril and Caden Christopher, who serve as chapter President and Vice President respectively, both offered congratulatory remarks to the new inductees. Nico encouraged the group to embrace risks, step out of their comfort zones, and work to have meaningful conservations as it grows one's perspective. Caden echoed his sentiments and shared the importance of pursuing social studies both academically and socially to form connections and learn about the world.
According to Dr. Hill, Rho Kappa candidates are identified by current chapter members, who are known to have a keen interest in history and social sciences. The lengthy and careful nomination process continues with an essay portion and interview before final selection. Once selected, the students are expected to uphold the values of truth, knowledge, wisdom, and service.
