Boys Lax Tops King to Reach New England Final; Warnock Named FAA Coach of the Year!

Bud Kohler
The beat goes on for the Boys Varsity lacrosse team, as they defeated King School 12-7 to advance to the New England Tournament Final for the second straight year.

The Hornets, seeded #1 in the Western bracket, produced one of their best all round performances of the season when it counted most, in defeating #2 seed King in the semifinal. Earlier in the season down in Stamford, the FAA foes had battled to a tie in regulation, with the Hornets earning the 13-12 victory in overtime, so the Vikings were clearly out to avenge that setback. However, a well balanced attack helped HH finish the first half with a 7-5 lead. Though King hung tough, the Hornets' defense, led by long stick Ryan Delfini and a resolute Sam Jewett in goal (10 saves), held the Vikings and their All American star at bay, winning the 3rd quarter battle to lead 9-6.

Junior face off expert Jackson LaLonde enjoyed a stellar day as well, enabling the Hornets to win a majority of the possession to outplay and outscore their frustrated opponents in the final frame and seal the victory. Zach Giugno led the scoring assault with 4 goals and 1 assist, Alex DiVincentis recorded a hat trick, Chase Lilly netted 2 and assisted on 2, and Griffin Elliott and Jeff Nugent both had a goal and 2 assists to complete the scoring. Coach Kevin Warnock commented on how it was a joy for the coaches, as well as the fans, to watch the team perform as they did.

And Coach Warnock surely must know what he is talking about, as he was just named the Fairchester League's Coach of the Year! Congratulations on such a well deserved honor.

With the victory, the Hornets advance to their second straight final where they will play #1 Eastern seed Pingree School from North Andover, MA. Pingree is the defending champion, having bested the Hornets in last year's championship. The final will be played Friday at Worcester Academy (MA) at 2:30. Congratulations and best of luck to the team.
