Alumna and Husband Speak at Hamden Hall

Jodi Amatulli
Jennifer Olayon 1995 and her husband, Adam Galinsky, recently visited Hamden Hall to share their expertise on separate topics with our community. In the afternoon, Jenn, whose professional life is immersed in issues of diversity and inclusion, was the guest speaker at the Diversity Committee meeting. Her topic was titled, Maximizing the Gains & Minimizing the Pains of Diversity. Later that evening at the 2016 Senior Winter Dinner, Adam provided an educational (and entertaining!) look at his recently published book, Friend & Foe. Adam, a professor at the Columbia Business School at Columbia University, offered the seniors (and their parents and some faculty too!) tips on when to be cooperative verses competitive. In between their talks, Jenn and Adam took a tour of Hamden Hall, including a look at the Beckerman Athletic Center. Jenn, who was a manager for the Boys Varsity Basketball team during her Upper School years, was impressed with the new athletic digs—including the premier court named after David Beckerman. Jenn endearingly recalled that “Coach B.” provided her a way to satisfy one of her sports requirement during her junior and senior years. “It was a pivotal time in the school’s athletic history with the arrival of Coach David Beckerman,” Jenn said. “Recently, I was pruning my things in my mom's garage (in Hamden) and found a letter “Coach B.” sent to UConn Athletics endorsing me as an incoming freshman. With that recommendation, I was able to work as a student assistant in UConn Men’s Basketball, the first time the men won the NCAA national championship!” Jenn, now living in New York City, hopes to return “back home” again soon to catch Coach B and his boys in action!
