Meet Our Girls’ Varsity Field Hockey Coach

The Girls’ Varsity Field Hockey team welcomed new coach Lauren Griffin to the team back in the fall.

 

Originally from Oyster Bay, N.Y., Lauren attended St. George’s School in Newport, R.I., where she was a seven-letter Varsity athlete playing field hockey, basketball, and lacrosse. She was named to the All-State Rhode Island Lacrosse team and earned various MVP awards and the Coaches Cup.

 

Lauren continued as a student-athlete at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Penn., where she was a four-year member of the lacrosse team and named captain her senior year. She also joined the Field Hockey team her senior year. Through her time as a player and working closely with the coaches, Lauren learned the crucial ingredients to developing and supporting teammates, encouraging others to succeed on and off the field, and the importance of team bonding and building.

 

Professionally, she worked in the fashion industry for 16 years before moving to North Haven, Conn., where she works for a small wine distributor selling fine wines. She also works as a snowboard instructor in both Connecticut and Vermont.

 

This past year was Lauren's first season coaching Field Hockey at Hamden Hall and she said she was incredibly proud of the dedication, poise, and athleticism of the Lady Hornets. Playing a modified schedule due to Covid and with limited numbers, the team finished with a 3-1 record.

 

Lauren noted that she is really looking forward to what the future holds for the field hockey program and will continue to build, lead, and support Hamden Hall student-athletes. As a former student-athlete herself, she is aware of the rewards of participating in team sports and the life lessons they instill.

 

Lauren is married to Hamden Hall alumnus Kiernan Griffin 2000, who is the current head coach of the Boys’ Varsity Lacrosse team and the Varsity Wrestling team. They will be new parents this fall as their daughter Eleanor begins PreSchool at Hamden Hall.
