Larry Gabel 1959 Remembers Ernie Russ

Larry Gabel, Class of 1959, could not make his 60th reunion this year, but he was there in spirit. Looking back on his years at Hamden Hall, Larry recalled that Ernie Russ was his “idol,” noting that it was because of Mr. Russ that he became a seventh-grade science teacher. Larry said he patterned his teaching methods after Ernie and became a resource to his students (just like Mr. Russ!). Eventually, Larry was asked to serve as a crisis specialist. After retiring from education, Larry was in the wine and restaurant businesses. Recently, he worked for the U.S. Census Bureau verifying street addresses for the 2020 Census. Larry is very proud of his four children. One is a captain in the Marine Corps; one is studying radiology at Rutgers; one is in the architecture program at Roger Williams; and one is studying law at Stonehill College. Larry will miss seeing his good friends Tommy Cioffi and Connie Ellner at the reunion luncheon, as he could not make the trip from Rhode Island. He wishes everyone well and would love to hear from his classmates. Email Larry at larry@godirectcmc.com.
