Past Parent, Frederick "Fred" Grave III
Hamden Hall Past Parent, Frederick "Fred" Grave III, of Hamden, died at home on April 11. He was 99.
Fred is survived by his wife, Kathryn, and three of his four children, two of which are Hamden Hall alumni; Frederick IV, Class of 1972, married to Hamden Hall alumna, Sally Guyott Grave, Class of 1973, and Dorothy Grave Hoyt, Class of 1979. His son Ted married Hamden Hall alumna, Sally Grant Grave, Class of 1965. Fred was predeceased by his daughter, Nancy Grave Noonan, who attended Hamden Hall with the Class of 1982. Frederick first wife, Dorothy Solakian Grave, is a Hamden Hall alumna of the Class of 1944.
Fredrick III will be remembered as a loving parent and an iconic New Haven businessman. He ran the family cigar business, F. D. Grave & Son, which was founded in 1884 by his grandfather.
