Co-ed Varsity Swimming and Diving Win NEPSAC Championship

The Co-ed Varsity Swimming and Diving Team competed in the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council Championship with a joint win by both teams. The Boys’ Team claimed first place, defending their NEPSAC Championship title for the sixth consecutive year as the Girls’ Team made history as they also placed first and earned their first-ever NEPSAC Championship title.
The Diving Championship took place at The Williston Northampton School on March 5. The Boys’ Team placed second as eighth-grader Russell Clune scored 346.55 points and seventh-grader Mason Ryall scored 310.85. With his score, Russell broke his own dive record. Sophomore Phoebe Roness finished in third place with a score of 223.25.

The Swimming Championship took place at WPI Sports & Recreation Center on March 7 with the team competing against 14 other programs. For the Boys’ Team, seniors Tyler Tagliarini and Jack Shi, junior Paxon Campbell, and freshman Blake Zeitlin placed first in the 200-Yard Medley Relay with a time of 1:42.38. Tyler placed first in the 100-Yard Butterfly with a time of 53.44 and second in the 200-Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:47.02.Eighth-grader Leo Connors placed second in the 500-Yard Freestyle with a time of 5:32.30 with sophomore John Countryman in third with a time of 5:38.21.

For the Girls’ Team, junior Alessandra Sticca, freshmen Rosemary White and Alina Zhu, and eighth-grader Arianna Angarita placed second in the 200-Yard Medley Relay with a time of 2:04.24. Rosemary earned a new school record as she placed first in the 500-Yard Freestyle with a time of 5:20.73 and second in the 200-Yard Freestyle with a time of 2:02.51. Alessandra placed third in the 100-Yard Backstroke with a time of 1:05.65 and seventh-grader Cassidy Clapp placed third in the 500-Yard Freestyle with a time of 5:50.39

 “The team delivered a monumental and historic performance at the NEPSAC Championships,” said Coach Jen Lyman. “Individual performances across the meet were equally impressive highlighting the strength and depth of the Hornets program and from the early momentum created by our divers to the record setting performances in the pool, this championship will go down as one of the most memorable and historic finishes in Hamden Hall Swim and Dive history thus far.”
