Victory Laps for Co-ed Varsity Swimming and Diving
The Co-ed Varsity Swimming and Diving Team hosted Westover School for a home meet at the Beckerman Athletic Center Natatorium on Saturday, January 17, with the Boys’ Team uncontested and the Girls’ Team victorious.
The Boys’ Team competed against themselves as Canterbury School was unable to attend. Sophomore John Countryman placed first in the 200-Yard Freestyle with a time of 2:07.32 followed by eighth-grader Leo Connors with a time of 2:11.55 and sophomore Grady Johnson with a time of 2:22.73. Senior Tyler Tagliarini placed first in the 200-Yard IM with a time of 2:19.46 and the 100-Yard Butterfly with a time of 1:09.72. Senior Jack Shi placed first in the 100-Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:13.07 followed by sophomore Frey Wang in second with a time of 1:17.32.
The Girls’ Team won against Westover School with a score of 63-54. Junior Alessandra Sticca, sophomore Josephine Nicotra, freshman Rosemary White, and eighth-grader Arianna Angarita placed first in the 200-Yard Medley Relay with a time of 2:09.85. Arianna placed first in the 100-Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:24.20 as seventh-grader Cassidy Clapp placed first in the 200-Yard IM with a time of 2:38.14. Sophomore Angelina Nicotra placed first in the 50-Yard Freestyle with a time of 26.94 and seventh-grader Ava Walker placed second in the 200-Yard Free with a time of 2:33.11.
For the 1 mtr Diving, eighth-grader Russell Clune placed first for the Boys’ Team with a score of 153.05 and sophomore Phoebe Roness placed first for the Girls’ Team with a score of 150.50.
“The meet served as both a confidence-builder and a developmental opportunity as Hamden Hall looks ahead to the heart of the season,” said Coach Jen Lyman. “The Boys’ Team used the meet as an opportunity to chase best times and refine race strategies while the Girls’ Team capped the day with strong exhibition swims, reinforcing their consistency and depth across all events.”
The Boys’ Team record is 2-1 for the season, and the Girls’ Team record is now 3-1. The team returns for a tri-meet against Kingswood Oxford School, Marianapolis School, and Williams School at the Beckerman Athletic Center Natatorium on Wednesday, January 28, at 4 p.m.
