Varsity Water Polo Open Season Victorious

The Boys’ Varsity Waterpolo Team opened its season with an away match against Loomis Chaffee on Saturday, September 20, winning 22-10.
The team was led by seniors and captains Heath Schwarz and Jack Cucchiarelli who showcased their dominance in the water. Heath had 10 goals, five assists, and four steals while Jack had four goals, six assists, and six steals. Freshman Blake Zeitlin had four goals, four assists and four steals.

Other key player highlights included eighth-grader Leo Spiegel with two goals and two steals; sophomore John Countryman with one goal, three assists and one steal; and junior Jehan Mody with one goal, one assist and three steals. Sophomore Henry Horotan had one steal. Senior Jack Shi played his first Varsity match as the goalie with seven saves and one steal. 

Coach Martha Phelan noted that it was a collective team effort to secure the win. She credits assistant coach Sian Lewandowski for her wealth of knowledge in the sport and working with the team along with team managers senior Julia Scalmani and sophomore Lily Micale. 

The team returns to the pool for an away match against Hopkins on Wednesday, September 24, at 4 p.m.
