St. Luke's Vanquishes Hard-Hitting Hornets

The Hornets gave it their all, but in the end, St. Luke's prevailed, in a 6-1 victory at the BAC courts. # 1, singles, Janie Motter, had great points, especially in the first set, driving the ball deep and giving opponent Katherine Pettee cause for concern. Chrissy Lifton upped her game in the second set, taking two brilliantly-executed games from her opponent. Simona Fried played tough points against a tough opponent at third singles, as did Chelsea Fusco, who managed to seize three games in the first set. Abby Ginsberg and Shin-Hae Lee scored a game in each of their hard-fought two sets, and Sarah Haddad and Anna Huether won their third doubles match by default. At first doubles, in a protracted and exciting cliffhanger, were the Amazin'Masseys, who won their first set 6-3, lost their second 2-6, and lost 8-10 in a heartbreak tiebreak, played in lieu of a third set. The loss was disappointing, but the level of play anything but. The Hornets are match-ready and poised to take on Cheshire Academy at the Yale courts on Friday.
