Class of 2014 alumna and Lifer Alex Acquarulo joked that, “some of my friends say that I bleed green and white.”
So, it’s not surprising that Alex returned to Hamden Hall in September as our new admissions associate.
“Being back on campus, I’m now in the position to help guide and mentor students,” explained Alex. “My days are busy in my new job. I interview prospective parents and students from PreSchool and PreK to sixth grade. I observe developmental screenings with our early childhood director, give tours, attend open houses, promote Hamden Hall at school fairs, and collaborate on our admissions marketing efforts.”
Alex feels her role in admissions is her way of giving back Hamden Hall.
“I love Hamden Hall because of our strong sense of community,” said Alex. “It's a place where students are encouraged to explore — whether it's through athletics, the arts, or daily classroom experiences. Over the years, being in this environment helped me learn more about myself. You're surrounded by dedicated, well-educated teachers and mentors who truly care, and who guide you toward becoming your best self, both academically and personally.”
Along her journey, Alex graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in entrepreneurship and small business management from Quinnipiac University and went on to earn her Master of Business Administration degree in Quinnipiac’s 4+1 Duel-Degree Program, where students can earn a bachelor's degree in four years and a master's degree in an additional year. She was also in charge of recruiting for her Kappa Delta Sorority at Quinnipiac, which has come in handy in her efforts to recruit new Lower School families for Hamden Hall.
Before returning to Hamden Hall, Alex worked for six-plus years for ONE SOURCE, which is a facilities management company in Wallingford, Conn.
“I worked my way up to director of operations at ONE SOURCE,” said Alex. “One of the benefits of working for a smaller company is that I got to do it all — human resources, information technology, operations, customer service, and more.”
Alex is also a popular social media blogger and influencer — with over 18,000 Instagram followers — who promotes restaurants and businesses under the name CT FoodGirly, LLC.
“I collaborate and network with local restaurant owners and public relations agencies,” said Alex. “I also organize paid partnerships, most recently for events like the Big E and Mohegan Sun Wine & Food Fest.”
You can also catch Alex on Star 99.9 FM with Kevin Begley at 3:55 p.m. and 5:55 p.m. every Tuesday in a segment called “THE FEED,” which she has been doing for the past two and a half years.
“I started CT FoodGirly back in 2018,” recalled Alex. “And, I got really busy during Covid. In addition to handling in-bound requests to promote food businesses, I also created and maintain my own website and Facebook and Instagram accounts.”
Alex has always loved food, family, and cooking, so she felt right at home marketing restaurants.
“Growing up in an Italian household, my mother and grandmother were always cooking for us,” recalled Alex. “I would watch, ask questions, and enjoy both the process of cooking the meal and sitting down with my family to enjoy it. Now, as I have gotten older, I realize that I love the experience of dining out, from the food to the company, it is something that I truly enjoy. CT FoodGirly is my way of sharing my love of food and cooking with the world.”
When Alex isn’t working at Hamden Hall or enjoying dinner at a local restaurant, she loves to work out, walk, cook, garden, and travel with her husband, Alexander King. The happy couple were married in July and live in Branford, Conn. Alexander is the co-founder and principal at Seaside Capital in Branford, which buys, sells, invests, and grows retail housing properties.
