Richard Craig Hitchins, of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, died on December 30 at the age of 80. His wife of 37 years, Betsy, was by his side.
Besides his wife, Richard is survived by two children, and his alumni siblings, Clayton Hitchins III, and Beverly Hitchins, Class of 1961 and 1963, respectively.
He was also a member of the Boy Scouts and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. After graduating from Hamden Hall, Richard earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Vermont. He went on to enlist in the U.S. Army Officer candidate school and then joined the elite Special Forces as a Green Beret. After his service, Richard graduated from Rutgers University with an MBA in Accounting and Finance. He later founded R.C. Hitchins Wealth Management, Inc.
