The Hamden Hall Community joined together for a week of spirited activities, athletic games, alumni gatherings, and the fifth-annual Color Run as part of the Homecoming celebrations both on campus and off at our Skiff Street Athletic Complex.
The Homecoming festivities took place throughout the week with school-wide spirit themed days and activities. Students across all divisions and faculty members participated in dress-up days with themes such as Retro Day, Jersey/Sports Day, and Green and White Day. On Friday, each division hosted its own events with Lower School welcoming magician and comedian Bryce Lang for an assembly performance and an afternoon pep rally and field day activities at Augur Field. Middle School students enjoyed trivia contests before departing for AMF Circle Lanes for bowling followed by Beckerman Night with 100 students in attendance. Upper School students spent the afternoon at the Skiff Street Athletic fields enjoying carnival-style activities, highly competitive games of Powderpuff and dodgeball, and a nighttime barbeque.
The Color Run welcomed students and families for a morning of fun and movement as participants gathered together in white T-shirts and vibrant-hued sunglasses to walk, run, or jog around the field at the Skiff Street Athletic Complex as volunteers showered them with rainbow-colored dust at various points around the course. The DJ played a curated list of upbeat music and encouraged all participants to have fun by adding in different instructions such as walking backwards, skipping, changing between a slow and fast pace, and more.
Following the event, families were invited to partake in different activities such as a three-legged race and egg and spoon race with Lower School physical education teachers Elliot Markman 2017 and Peyton Nevins at the helm. Other activities included yoga hosted by arts and theater teacher Lisa Daly and make-your-own medal and water bottle station.
The stands around the field were filled with fans to watch myriad athletic games including Girls’ Varsity Field Hockey, Girls’ Varsity Soccer, and Boys’ Varsity Football with Boys’ Varsity Water Polo happening inside at the Beckerman Athletic Center Natatorium.
Members of the Parents’ Association were busy grilling food and the Middle School Student Council sold candy as a fundraiser for the Keefe Community Center in Hamden. Dozens of alumni spanning the last five decades returned to the hive as they reconnected with fellow classmates at the Alumni Tent. Former and current faculty members were also in attendance.
