We were happy to update news from Lewis Rashmir, Class of 1943, in the 2018 Hamden Hall Magazine, where he said it has been “a long journey” since his graduation under the pines. Lewis marked his 75th reunion this year, and he although did not make it back to campus, he shared an update of the “major” events in his life. After Hamden Hall, Lewis attended Lehigh University and then enlisted in the Army. As a Combat Infantryman, he took walking tours of France, Germany, and Austria under Master Tour Guide George Patton. Lewis was part of the unit that liberated the concentration camp Gunskirchen Lager. After his military service, Lewis returned to Lehigh where he earned a Bachelor of Science in engineering. He worked for the telephone company and then the Airforce as an engineer. Eventually, Lewis went to work for the family business, which he later sold to Dart Industries. Lewis built a data processing factory in Ireland and developed Me Books—a product sold throughout the United States and Europe. After the United States made peace with China, thanks to Henry Kissinger, Lewis built a trading company in Santa Monica, Calif., selling Chinese home goods. Lewis retired in Santa Monica and later moved to Nashville in 1992. He and his wife, Lynn, have three living children, seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
