Ernest W. “Ernie” Russ, served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He served as a meteorologist in the Pacific arena during the war and interrupted his education at Yale University to do so.
Upon his return to the states, Ernie resumed his studies at Yale and went on to graduate from Yale with both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in science.
According to Dan Zibello, former Hamden Hall science teacher, Ernie’s work during the war was cutting edge and involved careful observation, communication with other military weather stations, and the eventual development of accurate models.
