Naomi Van Nes Commits to Tarheels
Senior basketball center, Naomi Van Nes, has signed a national letter of intent to attend the University of North Carolina and play for the D1 Tarheels. With family, friends, and her teammates in attendance, Naomi penned her signature to commit to one of the most heralded institutions of the ACC (Atlantic Coast Conference), a league most associated with outstanding basketball.
Naomi joins an impressive collection of recruited talent, the seven members of the future Tarheel class of 2020 is rated 13th in the country by ESPN. At 6'6", Naomi herself is a three-star rated player, and ranked 15th at her position in the 2016 high school class by ESPN. Sylvia Hatchell, UNC's head coach and the winningest active coach in the country, commented on Naomi saying, "Her mobility and size will be hard to match up with on both ends of the court. She runs the floor well, can score with her back to the basket, and can finish in traffic. With her work ethic and desire to excel, she will be a dynamic force in the ACC." Naomi replied, “I love that I will be able to play under a Hall of Fame coach, while receiving a great education.”
Naomi has helped Hamden Hall win two FAA championships as well as New England tournament titles. Congratulations to Naomi and the entire Van Nes family, as well as Coach Megan Borelli, who has worked so hard and inspired Naomi. It is a well deserved achievement for both player and coach. The winter preseason has begun. Be sure to come out and support Naomi and the girls team as they seek to repeat last year's impressive achievements.
