The Weiss Family

Like many of our families, Pnina and Alan Weiss first learned about Hamden Hall through friends whose children had attended the school. Checking it out for themselves, the Weisses soon discovered the many benefits inherent in a Hamden Hall education.

“We were drawn by the nurturing atmosphere with small classes and individual attention to the students,” maintained Dr. Pnina Weiss, a pediatric pulmonologist at Yale. Her husband, Alan, is the president and founder of Regent Wealth Management Group in Woodbridge.

Both of the Weiss children, Dan and Doria, enrolled at Hamden Hall for their freshman year and have since graduated – Dan in 2012 and Doria in 2015. The siblings are also continuing their education at the University of Michigan. Dan is majoring in international studies, Spanish and economics. He has spent time abroad in China, Spain, and Argentina. Doria is in the Honors Program and intends on pursuing premedical studies.

“Both of our kids were challenged by the teachers and the other students to think critically and to excel,” said Pnina.

Moreover, the Weiss family appreciated the fact that at Hamden Hall, “it’s cool to be smart!”

Alan further noted that the family was pleasantly surprised upon their arrival at Hamden Hall in terms of “the love that the students have for learning and the academic caliber of the students. They are exceedingly accomplished and bright.”

Also impressive, according to Alan, are the faculty members, who are both enthusiastic and dedicated. He cites Keith Gonnelly as the perfect example of both in addition to being a “phenomenal teacher,” who takes a personal interest in the students.

Perhaps most important is the balance that is achieved at Hamden Hall in terms of developing a well-rounded individual who has been instilled with a love of learning.

“Both of our kids participated in the sports program, which was wonderful as it fostered a sense of community, spirit, and leadership. They also had the opportunity to participate in a multitude of extracurricular activities eventually taking on leadership roles,” Pnina explained.

In a word, the Weiss family says that “community” is what sets Hamden Hall apart and truly captures the spirit throughout campus.
