Safi Wazaz Gets Nod from USA Baseball Elite
Safi Wazaz has earned a position with USA Baseball’s prestigious National Team Development Program after stand-out play at first base and at the plate during the recent 14U National Team East championships in Jupiter, Fla.
The rising ninth-grader, who, as a Hamden Hall Middle School baseball player earned the Five Tools Award and the MS Scholar-Athlete Award at Prize Day, plays on the Connecticut Stealth Baseball travel team. His coach is Hamden Hall parent and alumnus Chris Kuselias 1980. The entire Stealth team was showcased at the recent USA Baseball tournament.
“It’s a big deal,” said Safi’s father, Dr. Housein Wazaz, of his selection to the National Development Program. “Safi was one of 20 players selected out of the 450 East Team players.”
Safi will travel to North Carolina in August to attend the National Team Development Program, which offers players a week of training and games and a chance to work with top division coaches, USA Baseball alumni, or even popular MLB names and Olympians.
An article written on Safi in Baseball America noted his baseball prowess and the fact that he is only 13 years old. Safi’s development in the game has progressed considerably over the past several years. He now goes to strength and conditioning training twice a week.
