The Olson Family Gazebo was dedicated April 19 in honor of Class of 1955 alumnni siblings Joyce Olson Resnikoff and her twin brother, Jerry Olson, and in memory of their older sister, the late Sylvia Olson Michaels, a graduate of the Class of 1950.
The gazebo has already become a popular site on campus for students to gather and for faculty to conduct classes. When the Olson siblings attended Hamden Hall, a nearby spot, called "The Cabin," was the favored gathering place for students. (The Cabin was eventually torn down to make way for Whitson Hall.) Joyce recalled her favorite pastime while spending time in the Cabin - eating Nabisco peanut-butter crackers! She even brought a package for Head of School Bob Izzo to enjoy.
The dedication ceremony included a ribbon-cutting and a performance by the talented Studs 'n Tails, an Upper School all-male singing sextet directed by Music Director Dr. Lou Negri.
During her remarks, Joyce findly recalled her own times under the pines and shared some thoughts with current students.
"I hope you all have half of the memories that myself and my brother made on this campus. Remember the friends, the memories, and the things that you learn," she said.
Joyce also thanked Head of School Bob Izzo for his leadership. Also on hand were Board President Joyce Lujic and legendary former faculty member Ernie Russ.
