Alma Mater Sing-Off Yields School Spirit

A sing-off during a Lower School assembly last week generated some friendly competition among the grades while also encouraging school spirit.
A sing-off during a Lower School assembly last week generated some friendly competition among the grades while also encouraging school spirit.

Students have been learning the original Hamden Hall school song that dates back to the Taylor administration in the 1930s in celebration of the school’s centennial. After a rousing rendition of the alma mater by the entire Lower School, each grade level was asked to stand and sing the song.

“Come raise a song for Hamden Hall so loved till echo has the sound retold. Come gather round the dear old banner, emblazoned with the green and gold,” sang the students, accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Wysocki.

Mrs. Harris, Mr. Niblock, Mr. McEachern, and Mrs. Coppola listened intently in order to award a special prize to the grade who performed the best.

While all grades were enthusiastic and melodic, ultimately a winner had to be named. The third grade walked away with the crown, judges said, because of their overall performance. Rumor had it that the winners would be receiving school lanyards for their vocal efforts.
