FAA Championships Welcome Co-ed Varsity Swimming and Diving
The Co-ed Varsity Swimming and Diving Team competed in the Fairchester Athletic Association League Championship on Friday, February 21, with the Diving Championship and Saturday, February 22, with the Swimming Championship.
For the Diving Championship, eighth-grader Russell Clune delivered an historic performance, capturing first place while breaking another school record and setting a new FAA Championship record with an outstanding score of 339.00 on his 11-dive list. Seventh-grader Mason Ryalls placed second with a score of 308.55. Sophomore Phoebe Roness competed her 11-dive championship list for the first time and gained valuable experience with a score of 233.55.
For the Boys’ Team at the Swimming Championships, seniors Tyler Tagliarini, Jack Shi, and juniors Jehan Mody and Paxon Campbell placed third in the 200-Yard Medley Relay with a time of 1:43.72. Tyler also broke his own school records in both the 100-Butterfly with a time of 52.64 and the 100-Backstroke with a time of 51.99. For the Girls’ Team, freshman Rosemary White placed second in the 200-Freestyle with a time of 2:03.79.
The Boys’ Team finished the FAA Championship in third place as the Girls’ Team finished in sixth. Most impressively, the team achieved 50 best performances across the roster.
“The Hamden Hall Swim and Dive team entered the FAA Championships with momentum and confidence,” said Coach Jen Lyman. “With the team coming off back-to-back championship meets, this group demonstrated depth, grit, and championship-level composure. The energy and momentum we are building continues to carry us forward as we prepare for the final championship of the season.”
The team returns to the pool for the New England Championships on March 4. The Diving Championship will take place at Williston-Northampton School at 1 p.m. The Swimming Championship will take place at WPI Sports and Rec Center on Saturday, March 7, at 7 a.m.
