Senior Night Celebration for Co-ed Varsity Swimming and Diving

The Co-ed Varsity Swimming and Diving Team welcomed Sacred Heart Greenwich, Holy Child, and Greenwich Country Day to the Beckerman Athletic Center Natatorium for a meet on Saturday, February 7, with both teams earning a victory.
For the Boys’ Team, seniors Cam Puhl, Jack Shi, Tyler Tagliarini, and freshman Blake Zeitlin placed first in the 200-Yard Medley Relay with a time of 1:49.97. Tyler placed first in both the 100-Yard Freestyle with a time of 48.86 and the 100-Yard Backstroke with a time of 56.15. Blake placed first in the 500-Yard Freestyle with a time of 5:20.67 and second in the 200-Yard IM with a time of 2:08.97. Sophomore John Countryman placed second in the 200-Yard Freestyle with a time of 2:06.18 followed by eighth-grader Leo Connors in third with a time of 2:09.29.

For the Girls’ Team, junior Alessandra Sticca, sophomores Angelina Nictora and Josephine Nicotra, and freshman Rosemary White placed second in the 400-Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 4:11.59. Angelina, freshman Alina Zhu, eighth-grader Arianna Angarita, and seventh-grader Cassidy Clapp placed second in the 200-Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:55.13. Angelina placed second in both the 50-Yard Freestyle with a time of 26.54 and the 100-Yard Freestyle with a time of 59.48. Alessandra placed second in the 100-Yard Backstroke with a time of 1:07.23 and Rosemary placed second in the 200-Yard IM with a time of 2:30.84.

The Boys’ Team won 91.50-83.50 against Greenwich Country Day School. Their season record is now 7-2. The Girls’ Team won 112-64 against Holy Child. Their season record is now 8-3. 

For the 1 meter diving, eighth-grader Russell Clune placed first with a score of 217.85 and seventh-grader Mason Ryall in second with a score of 158.45 for the Boys’ Team. Coach Jen Lyman shared that Russell delivered a record-breaking performance, setting a new six-dive school record.

The meet also honored its senior members with a special Senior Night celebration. The seniors included Emma Cummingham, Cam Puhl, Julia Scalmani, Jack Shi, Heath Schwarz, and Tyler Tagliarini. Coach Lyman shared some sentiments and thanked the students, their families, and teammates for making the day special.

“It was a day filled with fast swims, big moments, and a lot of heart,” said Coach Jen Lyman. “A fitting way to honor our seniors competing at home in their final time in the season meet. Today was a chance to pause and recognize the leadership, commitment, and impact of our seniors. They have helped shape the culture of this program and set a standard for those who will follow, and we are grateful for everything they have given to Hamden Hall Swimming & Diving.”

The team returns to the pool to compete against Westover School, Williams School, MacDuffie School, and Marianapolis School at the Connecticut Independent School Athletic Conference (CISAC) Tournament on Wednesday, February 18, at 4 p.m.
