Alumni Paths Cross in the Operating Room
Class of 2008 alumnus Brendan Ruby recently moved back to Connecticut with his wife, Carly, and three children after serving as a general dentist in the U.S. Navy for five years. After moving to Madison and spending a decade living outside of Connecticut, Brendan joined a practice called Coastal Sedation Specialists.
“Coastal Sedation Specialists provides sedation and general anesthesia to pediatric and adult patients receiving dental treatment in the private office and hospital settings,” said Brendan. “In the spring of 2026, we will be providing care at the Dental Sedation Center of Connecticut, which is a brand new facility located in Fairfield.”
As part of the Coastal Sedation Specialists business model, Brendan finds himself practicing at different hospitals and private dental offices across Connecticut.
“By a stroke of luck, I ended up working at Jesse Sorrentino’s periodontal practice one day,” recalled Brendan. “I hope we continue to work together in the future!”
Jesse Sorrentino, Class of 1999, is a board-certified periodontist with almost 20 years of experience who owns BPS Periodontics Farmington & Simsbury.
Before Coastal Sedation Specialists, Brendan finished his dental anesthesiology residency at Stony Brook University Hospital in New York. He graduated from the College of Dentistry at New York University and University of Connecticut with a Bachelor of Science in accounting.
“It was great to connect with a fellow Hornet alum as my family replants our roots in the great state of Connecticut,” said Brendan.
