Connecticut Seal of Biliteracy Awarded to Language Students
Fourteen graduates from the Class of 2025 were the recipients of the Connecticut Seal of Biliteracy, which is an official recognition given to students who demonstrate proficiency in English and at least one additional language.
The students included Theodora Aslan, Joshua Aversa, Helena Chaine, Lauren Golioto, Eric Huang, Parker Jones, Phillip Kim, Zamara Mitchell, Jasper Moran, Mara Patterson, Neer Patel, Carlos Reyes, Alexander Yi, and Joshua Zecua-Herrera.
The Seal highlights the value of multilingualism and celebrates the hard work of students who have achieved high levels of communication skills across languages.
Upper School World Language teacher Nuria Mateos noted that only seniors receive this award. To earn this distinction, students must meet specific requirements, which include demonstrating proficiency in English through standardized assessments or coursework. Additionally, students must demonstrate proficiency in another language, either through an external exam (students need to achieve at least intermediate mid-level in all categories of the AAPPL test), or advanced coursework (receive a 3 or above on the AP exam).
