Extra Inning Victory for Boys’ Varsity Baseball

The Boys’ Varsity Baseball Team took on Winchendon School on Wednesday, April 26, winning 3-2 in extra innings.

Freshman Nicolas Scillia pitched seven strong innings as junior Ryan Lynch pitched two innings with four strike outs. Freshman and relief pitcher William “Billy” Cole took the mound for one-and-a-third innings, allowing no hits or runs to earn his first varsity victory.

At the plate, junior Gavin Lyons had a triple with two RBIs while fellow junior Nick Criscuolo led the team to victory with a walk-off single up the middle to allow junior Brady Chernovetz to score and close the game in the 11th inning.

The team also won 3-1 against Putnam Science on Monday, April 24. All four pitchers: juniors Gavin Lyons and Ryan Lynch and freshmen Shaun Flannery and Amato Civitello had a combined 13-strikeout and two-hit game.  Junior Will McGarry added two hits to the scoreboard for the Hornets while junior Brady Chernovetz landed a double with two RBIs.

“The team played strong all week, and I look forward to keeping that momentum throughout the end of the season,” commented Coach Brad Chernovetz.

The team record is now an impressive 10-3 overall. The Hornets return to the field at the Skiff Street Athletic Complex on Saturday, April 29, at 1 p.m. to play Harvey School.
