The Girls’ Varsity Softball Team played its first home game of the season at the Skiff Street Athletic Complex against MacDuffie School on Monday, April 3, winning 15-1.
Sophomore and starting pitcher Payton Collins took the mound and pitched an almost no hitter through the third inning. Senior Anna Soliwoda was 2-for-2 with a double while sophomore Mara Patterson also hit a double. Junior Isabella Aldo hit an in-park grand slam securing the win and ending the game.
Coach Laura Montone noted the team had all cylinders firing and the expectations for the season will continue to be high.
The team also claimed victory in its season opener against Rye School on Saturday, April 1, winning 12-1. Payton pitched five innings with one allowed run and 14 strikeouts with the help of sophomore and catcher Melanie Carling letting no other opponents cross home plate.
The team returns to the field at the Skiff Street Athletic Complex on Monday, April 10, at 4:30 p.m. to play Choate Rosemary Hall.
