Ruthann Beckerman, Past Grandparent

Beloved Hamden Hall community member and past grandparent Ruthann Beckerman died peacefully at her home on Thursday, December 29, surrounded by family. Ruthann and her husband, legendary basketball coach and entrepreneur David Beckerman, had been married for 51 years.

As a resident of Guilford and Boca Raton, Fla., Ruthann was a devoted wife and mother of five children.

“Within the Hamden Hall community, Ruthann was a staunch supporter of our school and our athletics program,” said Head of School Bob Izzo. “She and David always took a personal interest in students and faculty, attending countless events, opening their home often to members of the school community, and supporting students long after their graduation from Hamden Hall. The Beckermans gave their time, talent, and treasure; and as such, the Beckerman Athletic Center at our Skiff Street Athletic Complex bears their name.”

Ruthann leaves behind her children: past Hamden Hall parents Jodi and Richard Pollack and Dale and Robert Felice, as well as Lisa Martin, Brad Beckerman, and Cari and Keith Kaplan. Ruthann was grandmother to Michael Pollack, Class of 2002, Jordan Pollack, Class of 2004, Taylor Felice, Class of 2003, Matthew Felice, Class of 2005, and Todd, Daniel, and Lauren Martin, Jakob, Sydney, and Ellie Kaplan, and Willis and Sage Beckerman. Ruthann was also a great-grandmother and her nephew, Jonathan Beckerman, is an alumnus with the Class of 1999.

Ruthann attended Connecticut College and had an accomplished career at GTE Sylvania, within the travel industry, and was a founder of The Lingerie Boutique. She was also a philanthropist and was active in the Community One Event, The Jewish Community Center of Greater New Haven, and a proud Lion of Judah member. She served on the Board of Shubert Theatre.
