The article titled 210Pb and 7Be as Coupled Flux and Source Tracers for Aerosols in the Pacific Ocean looks at where atmospheric dust is entering the ocean and from where it comes. Dust flows are important, according to Dr. Fitzgerald, because they contain nutrients necessary for marine life.

For his part, Dr. Fitzgerald developed the methodology and laboratory data curation techniques used by the team to measure the amount of lead in the collected dust samples.

Dr. Fitzgerald received his Bachelor of Arts degree in chemistry from Vassar College and his Ph.D. in marine science from Stony Brook University.
