In celebration of the Periodic Table’s 150th anniversary (or sesquicentennial!), Hamden Hall hosted New York Times-bestselling author Sam Kean in conjunction with the New Haven section of the American Chemical Society and R.J. Julia Booksellers.
The event was coordinated by Upper School science teacher Dr. Frank Gasparro who is also the director of Hamden Hall’s premier Science, Innovation and Design Program. Doc Gasparro, as he is affectionately known on campus, is a 50-plus-year member of the American Chemical Society and is a past chairman of the New Haven chapter.
Mr. Kean recounted his interest in the stories behind the elements in the periodic table. He is the author of The New York Times-bestselling book, The Disappearing Spoon, among others.
After his talk, Mr. Kean signed books in the school library and AP Chemistry students sang happy birthday to the Periodic Table and celebrated with a special cake for the occasion.
