Rho Kappa is the only national organization for high school students that recognizes excellence in the field of social studies.
“Rho Kappa members are recognized for their academic achievement, particularly in social studies, and for their civic engagement and leadership qualities,” said Dr. Hill. “They are expected to participate in school and community activities while demonstrating a commitment to service and leadership. They are to represent stewardship in the school community.”
The inductees for the 2025-2026 academic year include juniors Kaelen Annes, Cole Christman, Evelyn Liu, Julia Scalmani, Heath Schwarz, Jason Tirozzi, and Sophia Vash; and sophomores Lily Evans, Anni Chen, Penelope Dwyer, Sunny Kim, Becky Liu, Alessandra Sticca, and Mia Verderame.
The ceremony welcomed guests including Head of School Bob Izzo, Director of Admissions Janet Izzo, outgoing chapter members, current chapter members, and the new inductees. Mr. Izzo congratulated the new Rho Kappa inductees on this distinct honor and their commitment to the social sciences. Furthermore, he encouraged them to be active members of the community beyond their time at Hamden Hall and understand other points of view while working to find common ground with others when discussing issues.
Seniors and outgoing chapter co-presidents Addison Letizia and Alex Yi spoke to the new inductees on the history of Rho Kappa and the importance of service. Vice-president and junior Nico Razza-Baril closed out the ceremony with his speech before all guests were invited to enjoy light refreshments. The inductees will receive their official certificates at Prize Day on Wednesday, June 4.
According to Dr. Hill, Rho Kappa candidates are identified by current chapter members, who are known to have a keen interest in history and social sciences. The lengthy and careful nomination process continues with an essay portion and interview before final selection. Once selected, the students are expected to upload the values of truth, knowledge, wisdom, and service.
